INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC DAY

  International Olympic Day is celebrated on June 23 each year and was first observed in 1948.It aims to bring the world together to celebrate the spirit of Olympic Games,and Sports as a whole.The day marks the founding of the international Olympic committee on 23rd June,1894 at the Sorbonne,Paris.Pierre de Coubertin,a French historian and educator,rallied at revival of the Ancient Olympic Games on this day.The Main purpose of observing International Olympics Day is to promote and spread awareness about the Olympic Movement,and to encourage more and more people to take part in the Olympic Games.The theme for 2023 is #LetsMove which reflects the Olympic movements desire to encourage people to take the time to move.

    The Olympics is the world's largest international multi-sport event held 4 years.The Modern Olympic Games are inspired by the Greek's ancient Olympic Games held in Olympia,from the 8th century B.C to the 4th century A.D .The first modern summer Olympic Games were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece.Since its foundation, international Olympic Day has widened its audience and has adapted to local specificity. The Major purpose of International Olympic Day is to encourage more and more participation regardless of age,Caste, social background,gender ,or sports activities and to focus on expanding opportunities in Cultural , educational,and sporting activities.

 In Ancient Greece,in honour of Zeus,the father of all Greek gods,a religious festival was held each year.The Olympic Games were part of that Festival.It began in 776 B.C. when a cook fro m the city of Elis won a 600-foot-long foot race.For the first 13 years,It was the only athletic event of the Games.Later from 776 B.C., Olympics were held every four Years for about centuries.The Olympic Day Run is the core activity of Olympic Day that was launched in 1987.The Run is organised by National Olympics Committees all over the globe 🌍 to celebrate Olympic Day and promote the practice of mass sport.45 Nations participated in the first Olympic run held 1987 which has increased to more than 150 nations at the present time.

The teaching of Olympic Values is also important for this pillar,which are excellence friendship and respect.Olympic Day is great Opportunity to look at the contribution of Sport to global Social Issues. Olympic Day has much deeper and stronger mission than any other sporting event.
