CHAMPARAN SATYAGRAHA-1917
Gandhi's first great experiment in Satyagraha came in 1917 in Champaran,a distinct in Bihar.The European planters had been forcing the peasants to grow indigo on 1/3(one third) of the total land (This system is known as the Tinkathia System) and also to sell their products at a very low price.Gandhi started a Satyagraha against 'TINKATHIA SYSTEM. Government appointed a committee of enquiry on which Gandhiji served as a member.The Committee of enquiry recommend some measures to alleviate the miseries of Indigo Cultivators thereby bringing the Satyagraha to an end.
KHEDA SATYAGRAHA-1918
The Satyagraha movement in the Kheda district of Gujarat in India was led by Mahatma Gandhi,in which Gandhi agreed to help the peasant movement for income remission in Kheda at the request of local Peasant leaders.Following the Satyagraha the government had to ultimately accede to the demands of the peasants and issued instructions to collect the revenue only from those who could afford to pay.During the Kheda Satyagraha,many young leaders such as Sardar Vallabhai Patel and Indulal Yagnik became Mahatma Gandhi's followers
